Rocks and grain

23rd - Saturday - , Porongurup - went up Castle Rock Granite Skywalk -

pretty scary once you're up on it, as the view straight down is a long way, through a plastic grid that you're on.

Also viewed Tree in a rock: lichen (a combo of an alga and a fungus) put down small roots. Using acid they penetrate the rock, breaking it down. Along with dead lichens, detritus and rock, it becomes soil; enough for a tree to plant itself and get pretty large.

24th - left camp early, got to Bluff Knoll.

Got 1.6kms up, kids were complaining about their legs, so couldn't go further.
We got 1.6kms along the track, about halfway.
The views even from half way up were really spectacular.
Lunch of sandwiches at a small wheat processing town. Afternoon of laziness at Wave Rock. Louis kept asking to go for 6 months; now we're here, they're on devices dammit. The rock is about 200m away.

25th - walked around Wave Rock, and on top. Nice walk learned about Gnammas - small rock pools that come to life with rain, including small yabbie type creatures, pond skippers etc.

Surfing the wave.
The rock was formed underground by water movement, then was finally uncovered by weathering.
Hippo's yawn.
26th - schoolwork, long drive to Esperance.
Saw grain harvesters cutting the crop down further. Huge fields extending far out. The edges are pure white sand, so not sure how they get such good producing fields out of it.
