Karratha, Roebourne, Cossack, Dampier

After weeks in the semi arid deserts of the north west, we finally made it to tha citaaayyyyy.
Above: Smiley face pancakes for breakfast in Millstream NP.

On the way to Dampier, we went to the Beach at Point Sampson (right), lovely, and topped up groceries in Wickham.

In Dampier, the salt makers have a good sense of fun with Elvis cutouts, a snow sled, shark fins poking through the surface, ants etc. It is the home of Red Dog, just haven't seen the film. At night, we saw a two person band and some singers, then waited forever for some ordinary Japanese food.
Cossack is a beautiful collection of restored stone buildings.

In Dampier, the caravan park is great. Everyone gathers around the central picnic table to drink, chat and laugh.

Left: one of the characters from the caravan park. Nice guy, just pretty weird after several several drinks.

Unfortunately, we got there too late for the laughs, and got to the debate where everyone weighed in on what's wrong with Aboriginal people and their perceived preferential treatment. They said we're not responsible for what happened 200 years ago. One lady looked exactly like one in the movie Mississippi Burning.

Right: ship loading. They put the iron ore into compartments bit by bit, to stop the ship from rolling. If they put too much in one end, the ship can also break its bottom.
