The Waukaringa Hotel, just near Yunta, S.A.

And we're off to Flinders Ranges. First night stop is Waukaringa.

We roll on through the huge open vistas, stopping at a railway town for a photo, then getting to Yunta late. The hotel is calling us. Lucky Marie has info about camping places via Wikicamps. It says Waukaringa is an excellent spot, so we do the extra 30 or 40k to get there instead.
There is a big warning sign saying you're entering the outback, to have adequate water, food etc. Stay with your car if you break down; don't walk it!
Waukaringa's an abandoned hotel, empty since the 60s. An awesome beautiful ruin, in a beautiful place. This feels like a bit of adventure at last, a lucky find. The night is comfortable. I'm a lot more comfortable when there are other people around to camp with though. An odd passing car freaks me out; are they an axe murderer?
Ollie's on the cooktop, nice one Ollie.
The following day we roll on along the sometimes smooth, sometimes stony surface. Tyres are set down to 34psi, so it's handling it much better, and a lot more comfortable to drive. We bump into a pair of guys on bikes mustering, on a hilltop. They're trying to herd wild goats for overseas and city markets. We talk goat curry; I'm promising to eat one once we're back, and when I do, I'll be thinking of these guys trying to herd them up (and find them even) by bike. One farm hand tells us it's the worst drought he's experienced in 20 years.
On the hill top where we saw the guys mustering on bikes.
The view out - no sign of goats just now.

Below; on the road to Balcanoona in Vulkathunha National Park.
