A fine day to be out on the lake.
We drive to Lake Frome, some dust and sand along the road. The car decides to stay in the ruts but rolls fine.
No swimming allowed; the boys sprinted across the lake to the nearest sand dune.
Lake Frome is crusty and crunchy to walk on. The salt crystalises together with sand to create a dirty sand looking surface, clustered together in hexagon like bordered shapes, some with enough salt to go a bit white on the surface.
White crusty salt mixes with sand and a little bit of dirt to make the surface which is all solid for the bits we saw. They haven't had rain there for 3 years. Usually it comes December/January and again at Easter. It's badly dry, much worse than normal.
There's some amazing sand dunes that the boys delight in jumping off, rolling in, and burying themselves in. There's a price to pay later in the tent, which I pay in sweeping furiously. All the stuff on the floor is straight white, while surrounding the tent today is red/brown dirt in Arkaroola.
The boys could just do it all day.
Starting to get hot now.
Running out of energy, Louis starts to roll down instead.
Ollie flies high.
Lou and Ollie at the start, jumping like mad.
Getting some good air.
Some thoughtful soul has put a bench up so you can sit and admire the lake.
A nice shot by Marie. I need to work out my colours one day dammit.
Trudging.
The great patterns on the lake floor. I'd love to see it full of water some time.
Chunky salt crystal; the salt from Lake Frome is delicious.
This rock looks like it's got copper ore.
