Day tripping
Left: silver mining town of Zacatecas
Right: in a pub in Tequila
Guadalajara has a lot to see. Nearby is the town of Tequila. Like Champagne, only the liquor from the agave cactus made here can be called Tequila. On the same day, we drive to the circular pyramids of Guachimontones in Teuchitlan, and a volunteer explains the ceremonies, and death rituals of the site.
Another day, we drive up to Zacatecas, a town built for the nearby silver mines. The streets and architecture are unbeleivable, and UNESCO world heritage listed. Near here is the important La Quemada ancient ruins (still in good shape though!), but we're too late for a viewing.
