I went over to visit Marie around the 10th August 2005. I took my bike over (the orangy red one that got nicked, see previous post). At this time, the bike was good enough. The first 3 days I rode all around San Francisco. Despite the hilliness, it is a pleasure of a place to go around. Plus most of it is actually quite flat.
Left: well if you don't know, now you know. How it goes in the Northern Hemisphere.
View towards Coit Tower, right.
Day 1, and I'm cycling around with no plan, but that's the way to do it since there's things to see in any direction. Even the homeless of Harrison street are interesting. Photographed one guy with his pants actually beneath his arse. Must be hard to walk like that.
Below: the San Francisco City Hall at the relatively deserted Civic Centre Plaza. They've said there's nothing there there about everywhere, but somehow it feels like it needs some more cafes or something.
The regular homes of San Francisco. Expensive then, now hideously expensive apparently. Regular calls are made for urban renewal but that would seriously kill the place. This is fairly high density already.
The typical streets. It's like someone threw a grid down but paid zero attention to where the inclines are and how steep they will be.
The Bay Bridge. This has now been replaced so that it's more earthquake resistant.
The seals of Fisherman's wharf. You can spend hours here watching them battle for a spot in the sun.
Below, the Embarcadero. It used to be an elevated freeway. Luckily an earthquake killed it, and the mayor decided to get rid of it. It will not be missed.
