1st December - summer is here! Mind you even here on the Nullarbor it's about 19C maximum. Can't guess the weather - Antarctic winds are pushing from the south.
Went for a run up the hill for the view again. All went to the local Madura cave.
There was one cavern(it was a kangaroo graveyard), then another where you had to crawl on your knees for the entry, then it opened right out. It went on for a decent distance. We had four torches. Saw a tiny bat, some bugs, great fun. The roof holes let some light down in a ghoulish way. Quite exciting to sneak in the entry that looked like nothing but was quite a grand cave. No idea what would be on the other side of the entry hole.
On the way out from the cave, came across an echidna trying to cross the road.
Why did he cross the road? I'm not sure if there was a point to it.
The plains here are lovely short green shrubs dotted here and there with acacias. It looks African.
More arbors on the Nullarbor.
Royal Flying Doctor Landing strip is also the highway here.
Stopped Eucla for lunch. Lucky the clocks are labelled, which is nice, as the time is very confusing around here, between WA time, SA time and Eastern WA time which is so obscure it's hard to google it.
The nearby jetty on the beach was needed to supply the station at first.
It was a spectacular sandy beach, high cliffs in the distance.
Oh and, NEEDS WIFI ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Checked out the old telegraph station, now half buried in sand dunes. The boys ran around the roof like cats. The stonework is very neat. It was a substantial building of about 6 rooms and a hallway. Surprisingly good!
Crossed the border into SA!
It feels like a new state. Lucky there's no fruit check until Ceduna, 500k's further. We are staying in Border Village tonight.
